Tam Industries was started in 1970 by Louie Tam in the backyard garage of his house in Seattle, WA. Louie started the business by importing acrylic sheets from Taiwan and distributing them through out the Puget Sound area to various local suppliers of plastic goods. In 1972, Louie rented a small warehouse down the street from his house where he was able to service his growing clientele better. He also opened a small retail store at that same location where he expanded his products to include fiberglass material for the boat industry.
During the energy crisis of the 1970’s, there was a great demand for energy efficient products, and naturally a demand for skylights evolved. Louie saw this as a new opportunity to expand his business. With the materials that he had on hand, he started to manufacture acrylic dome skylights, and marketed to his existing clients as a free source of light while improving the value of their homes. This sector of his business started to grow tremendously as new construction in the Puget Sound area grew.
To meet this demand of skylights, in 1988, Louie purchased a competing skylight manufacturing company, Nature Light Skylights in Kent, WA, to increase production capability and market share. With this acquisition, Louie was able to establish his company, as one of the leaders in skylight manufacturing in the Pacific Northwest.
Today, Tam Skylights is located in Seattle in a 50,000 sq ft facility that produces the highest quality skylights in the Northwest. With a skilled workforce and modern manufacturing equipment, Tam Skylights have proven themselves to many local contractors and homeowners of the reliability and quality of their skylights.
Tam Skylights is a family run business and it continues its tradition with Irwin Tam, Louie’s son, overseeing the daily operations of the company.
